You may remember back in January I wished my older sister happy birthday. It was full of admiration and sappy stuff. So today is my younger sister’s birthday. She and I had a totally different relationship growing up. --- The little shit. She is two years younger than me and I fully expected the same admiration from her that I gave to my older sister but, did I get it? Nooooo! She thought we were equals. How dare she!
She never would listen to me. When we were kids and went fishing, I told her there was a fish on the line but would she pull it in? Nope. Then when it was time to go and I never got a chance to fish she reeled in the line and surprise, surprise, there was a fish! She and my cousins tortured me mercilessly in our Uncle Bob’s boat. I thought they were going to capsize the little motor boat. I cried and they laughed. That is not how you are supposed to treat your older sister!
We fought almost daily, yet, we were truly the best of friends. When my older brother and sister were allowed to bring friends along to Worlds of Fun, my younger sister and I had each other. We liked to ride the same rides. We pulled some stupid shenanigans like hiding being the door of this barrel ride and rode it two times in a row. I almost puked after that second ride! We enjoyed each other’s company and I never regretted hanging out with her. (Well, there was that time she shoved M&M’s in the baby contest slots at the drug store and I was mortified.) She was my best friend growing up. Where I admired my older sister, I shared my inner most secrets with my younger sister.
She put up with all my boy crazy rantings. We spent hours in the basement roller skating to Shaun Cassidy and Leif Garrett. She put up with me tagging along to play with her friends since there weren’t many kids my age in the neighborhood.
So even though we fought often as kids; even though you almost shot my eye out with a rubber band and even though you plastered our bedroom walls with Ricky Schroeder; I love you and wish you a wonderful and happy birthday!
(And also, Happy Anniversary to my in-laws!)

I always wanted a sister. Or a brother. Or a cousin who was close enough to hang out with... Being an only child has some serious disadvantages! But then I know people who HATE their siblings. I'm so glad you aren't in that boat! Opps. Sorry. Didn't mean to bring back a bad memory. ;o) xoxoxo
ps. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SIS!
Those are some great memories. I personally don't have a sister, just a younger brother. I always wanted an older brother, but never got one. Happy birthday Deb's sis!
Hahahaha! I am a middle child, too, with two sisters. Well. Kinda. I have an older real sister who I lived with and a younger half sister who I only saw two months out of the year. Even though I was seven years older and changed her diapers, bathed her, taught her to tie her shoes (where were the parents, you ask?) we got along famously. It's hard to believe she's now 23 and a mom herself.
Happy birthday to your sister!
Ha! I sound horrible!!! But I still can't help but laugh about a lot of that stuff.....
Thank you for the well wishes! I love you, too!
