This week I do not have a Thursday Fiction entry. I have been busy getting the kids ready for their Valentine's Day parties and have not had any time to spare to think of an idea or put it to paper computer. So, I thought I'd share with you all our projects.
I mentioned here that I was doing Valentines recommended by Lis Garrett. We got a good start on them, but as suspected, follow through was a little wanting. I ran out of Tootsie Pops and had to buy more. The kids got a little bored with it. I had to do Peanuts on my own since she's not much help. Monday night I found myself sitting in front of the television wrapping stems and addressing Valentines. Thankfully Diva's class didn't want the Valentines addressed and she had signed them already. They didn't turn out as cute as Lis' but they weren't too bad and we did have fun and family time making them.

Diva and Peanut did not need Valentine boxes because they were making them in class. Monday night I realized MA did not have a box ready for her party and I didn't have any spare shoe boxes lying around the house. We went to Hobby Lobby after we dropped Diva at dance class to see what we could find. Of course, this close to Valentine's Day they were pretty picked over so we went looking for a box we could decorate with stickers. We found this cute pail. I took a bandana from the Valentine section and made a "lid" for it. MA added a doily. She said many of the kids didn't really even make boxes; they just had bags for all their goodies. The great thing about this pail is you just take off the lid and doily and it can be used for something else.

This one is for you men out there just so you know we women goof on the holidays sometimes, too. Last night after I picked MA up from religion class, I ran by the grocery store to get some milk and "treaty-treats" (My DH's term.) My husband and I don't do Valentine's Day up very big. Sometimes we don't even get cards. Last night I asked him if we were doing anything and I got the evasive "You'll just have to wait and see." Uh oh, that means I will probably get a card, I better get one for him. I figured I could pick one up at the grocery store. After we had checked out I looked around and saw all these people buying Valentine items: flowers, chocolate, etc. Oops, forgot to pick up a card. Did I go back and get one? Nope, I was too lazy and wanted to get home. So I guess "we'll see" if I've got the mark of "World's Worst Wife" on my forehead when he gets home. Bet he brings me flowers. That will be just my luck!
Happy Valentine's Day. Now, go give your sweetie a Kiss!

HAHAHAHA!!!
I think your homemade valentines turned out just as well as mine, and I love that pail!
My husband and I don't do Valentine's Day, although he did surprise me with a very nice card (oops!). Guess I'll have to make it up to him. ;-)
I am such a bad mom! I sent Gabi to school with a bag of wrapped candy (you know the pre-wrapped and ready kind that you just pay for and send?)
Lis -
I liked the pail, too. I may have to remember that idea for next year. They can just put different decorations on the outside each year and I can keep recycling it. That is, if they let me get away with it!
I LOVE the Valentine pail. It's perfect. I just bought red wrapping paper and wrapped a couple of boxes up and the kids covered them in stickers.
Cool valentines! And you better at least post pics if you get flowers. Then you can tell him how everyone oooooed and ahhhhhed over them!
HAPPY Whatever Floats Your Boat Day. ;o)
