Recently I ran a five part series on making friends for your child with Down syndrome. This series is not only helpful for your child with Down syndrome but for a child with ANY special need. In fact, you may remember I recently had a birthday party with my oldest daughter. I was inspired to have this party because of this series. Already I have seen positive results. Below is a summary for this series with links to each post:
- Friendship - Get involved and volunteer in your child's classroom.
- Friendship - Part 2 - Create a lunch bunch for your child and a few rotating friends.
- Friendship - Part 3 - Have a party - or two - or three!
- Friendship - Part 4 - Give your child an interview book.
- Friendship - Part 5 - Create an after school club.
If you have any additional ideas, I hope you will share them or share any successes you have had by using these ideas. Good luck and happy friendships!

These have been wonderful posts for me to read - with Abby's social issues, making friends is something that is already proving difficult for her. Many of the things you talk about here are relevant and helpful for me as I struggle with how to help her. Thank you for reposting the list of them all!
i know i have already shared how much i love this series, but i wanted to thank you again for sharing!!
Hi Debbie,
You're such a great advocate for children with special needs, and your ideas are priceless.
I like how you put all of your "friendship" ideas into one post. I would say this is a great article to bookmark.
Hi Barbara,
Thanks, but I can't take credit for this post. One of my readers asked if I could do this post and I thought it was a great idea. I also made a button on the right sidebar called "Making Friends" so it can be easily accessed anytime.
Parties are always fun. And if planned right there can be very little interaction from the parents. It's a win-win.
pssssst....hey i left you a little L O V E over on my blog...come and pick it up and pass it on!!!
