In case you missed it, or you are new here, or you just never really thought about it, Peanut was given her nickname because she is tiny. She is nearly 3 1/2 years old and she is about the same size as a 1 year old. She barely weighs 20 pounds. Perhaps this picture of her with her classmates will give you a better understanding of how little she is.
This actually comes in pretty handy when she decides to throw a temper tantrum or try to run from me. I can still pick her up without any problem. However, because of her size, she is most likely looking at a very long life in a toddler car seat. By age 3 1/2 my other two children had moved up to the booster seat. By age 5 MA refused to ride in any car seat. She was in Kindergarten and none of her classmates were still in boosters. Kansas law now requires children between the ages of 4-7 must ride in a booster seat until they are 80 pounds or taller than 4'9". Diva has no choice but to remain in her booster and I have the law to back me up. None of my children are giants, MA barely weighs 65 pounds and is 4' 8.5"; without the age limit, MA would still be in a booster!
Peanut, however, realizes that she has not been moved up to the cool booster seat with the seatbelt. Last night when I loaded the younger girls into the car to make a quick run to McDonald's, Peanut immediately headed for MA's seat in back. She even tried to put on the seatbelt, but settled for Diva's hat and MA's headphones.

I finally dragged her out of MA's spot and buckled her in. Diva helped by playing "piggies" with her. (Yes, I know they aren't wearing shoes, we were just going through the drive-thru.)

She looks too cute in the seat - such a doll!!
Hey Debbie...how long has Peanut been at that "right around 20" mark? Like has she gained steadily but slowly, or has she been on a bit of a plateau for a while? Braska's just made it to 18 lbs finally this month at 18 months, and I hear that they kind of taper off alot around 2 years... was that the case with you guys??
She is such a cutie!
My guy is so little too, but not quite as little as your Peanut.
Love the look of the blog.
Will try to pop in more for a comment as I only seem to have time to read these days.
We have the same law here in NY. Like MA, if it weren't for the age thing, Hannah would still be in a booster, too!
Lately, Bridget has been refusing to sit in her carseat. Most days when I pick her up from preschool, it takes a good 20 minutes just to get her buckled in. Lest someone think I am abusing her, I try to coax her in with verbal requests rather than "force" her to sit in her seat. It's is SO darn frustrating!
I agree with Meliss - Peanut looks too cute in her seat!
Oh poor Peanut. Becca has the same issue with wanting what the 'big girls' have - but she's got an advantage in that she's bigger than average for her age (or at least taller). We just moved her into the booster with internal harness last month because she'd gotten too tall for her convertible seat.
Hannah's nickname is Peanut too - for pretty much the same reason as yours. :) Although she went from 5th percentile during her first couple of years up to right about average now. But she's still a Peanut, at least compared to her sisters. I'm figuring that Becca will overtake her in growth in a few years at the rate they're going.
Speaking of Becca, this week she's suddenly the seatbelt 'police' - freaking out if anyone in the car (namely Daddy) isn't buckled when the car starts. :)
Aiden will be in a booster seat when he goes to middle school. He's tiny. He's long, 31 inches, but he has no weight, just a little over 16 lbs.
Hi Debbie,
I love your stories and pictures of Peanut. She is a little doll.
The picture of her with the headphones is adorable. She looks lost in that seat. So cute!
Peanut is just the cutest little thing! and how sweet of big sis to ease the pain by playing piggies!
but Mc Donalds? ew!! LOL
Hi Barbara,
Sometimes she tries to jump in Diva's booster seat. I prefer that since it's not in the back of the van and I don't have to crawl back there to get her. :)
She is a doll! I love those pictures!!!!!
She is so cute. I love the "piggies" picture!! I hope Lacy gets a sister someday.
She IS a peanut! Micah was 30 pounds for 3 years and I'm shocked the doctors never said anything. He's finally just over that at age 5.
And he gets in Luke's car seat any chance he gets. We've got the exact same state laws. Luke has a booster and we still have Micah in a full seat. He KNOWS.
I love that you dash out for ice cream without making everybody get their shoes on. That's worth at least two cool points in my book.
I've got a Peanut, too! My 3rd child (daughter) just turned 3 and she is a little bigger at 25 pounds, but she has always been petite for her age. I grew up in the middle of Kansas (Gt. Bend area).

Hi Debbie: My 9 year old is still in a boster seat. He's a light weight, but I told him he's better of in the seat because it keeps him high above the wasteland in the backseat - food, papers, sand, yada yada. I think he'll stay there a while yet. :)
Wow, I didn't realize how small Peanut was! Leah just hit 18 lbs!
Well mama isn't exactly a big girl!
And according to Indiana law, Gabi is still in a booster. She's 8 1/2! They are required until through 8 yrs old although I swear we are the only ones who still use them. I guess I still do because I see how it makes a difference in the way the seat belt fits her.
haha we have the same problem here with Kennedy! She wants to be in Kass' seat SO badly! She's 4 and 23 lbs so... *sigh*
She is so cute! I love that last picture of big sister playing with her toes. :)
