Root & Sprout™

Have you ever read a parenting magazine or article and wondered, "Does this person really know what they are talking about?" Often it seems there are a lot of professionals out there spouting advice like the unmarried marriage counselor. Parenthood does not come with a handbook. It takes a lot of on-the-job training. Who better to give advice than moms and dads dealing with the day to day struggles of raising children. With that theory in mind, Lis Garrett had a vision. The product of that vision is her new online magazine Root and Sprout™ and its philosophy:

[T]he relationship between parent and child is one that grows through mutual love and respect. With gentle, hands-on parenting, we can give our children the necessary roots to help them sprout.
On June 1, 2008, Root and Sprout™ went live with articles written by people who support its philosophy. You will find articles in several categories including: raising children of 4 different age groups; raising children with special needs; and the different paths some couples take to become parents. In addition, you will find ways to "Cultivate Your Relationship" with your children and ways to "promote a better way of life" for yourself and your children.

A couple articles you will find in the June edition include:

  • Dining Out With Small Children: How to Stack the Deck in Your Favor
  • Cook Up Some Fun with Your Preschooler
  • A review of the book: The Mommy Wars

These are just a few of the excellent articles you will find in this edition. You may even find one or two by yours truly.

The great thing about Root and Sprout™ is it is NOT a blog. Don't get me wrong, I love blogs, but with summer here and the desire to be outside with our kids, reading daily posts and commenting on all of them take a lot of time. With Root and Sprout™ you can read at your leisure, just like the magazine you bought at the grocery store, but Root and Sprout™ is free! You have all month to take in all the great articles and don't have to worry about commenting. In addition, you can even submit an article or two of your own! Lis is now accepting articles for the June 29 edition.

Subscribe to Root and Sprout™ or bookmark it today. Grab a cup of coffee (or soda, or tea) and start reading today. You won't be disappointed!

Hi AZ,

You are so sweet. I agree, you probably wouldn't find much interest over there but thanks for dropping by. :)

I am still a reader of your blog but have not come back to blogging. Yet. The baby is 15 mo. old and Happy is 2 1/2. With school over next week and the two older ones home, starting the blog up again now seems futile. BUT I'm definitly going to check out your friends on-line magazine. It's sounds very cool. Take care!

Hi Debbie,

That magazine is a fabulous idea..A magazine written for parents, by parents. That is an ingenious idea. Kudos to Liz.

And thank you for bringing it to our attention.
