It's the first Tuesday of the month and that means it is time for Ability Tuesday! A time to celebrate our children's abilities, not their disabilities. I asked MA to create a logo for Ability Tuesday. She gave the awareness ribbon wings because our abilities make us soar. I am trying to figure out how to make an iframe box for my sidebar so you can grab the button for your blog, but I'm lost. If someone can point me in the right direction, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Just a reminder, Ability Tuesday is open to all individuals with special needs, not just Down syndrome. You can share your child's ability either here in the comment section or on your blog. If you post on your blog, be sure to link to Mr. Linky!
Peanut's Ability: Peanut is learning to jump. Most parents take jumping for granted for a 3 1/2 year old, but Peanut cannot do it. However, she keeps trying. She bends her knees way down and jumps (steps) with one foot leading the other. She loves to jump over cracks or off the bottom step. Every time she jumps she stops to clap. She especially loves it when we all clap with her and cheer her on!

you go peanut!
hi debbie. you're right. we do take things for granted in our kids. that's something i'm working on.
i remember when littlemother hen first learned to jump with all of that drama -- bending way down, and with all of her might jumping (one foot at a time) over things. thank you for bringing back that memory...she was always so cute with her stubby legs. she was so proud of herself when she was done.
Yay for jumping! That is awesome news!
I've noticed my Bean's ability to use signs has really taken off!
I love the logo your daughter made for Ability Tuesday. It's beautiful.
What a great logo! It is so meaningful and colorful!
What a sweetie-pie! Good for her. Like I just said to the other Kim, each milestone is a lifetime in the making. :)
Kuddos to MA for a great picture. She captured the meaning perfectly.
I remember going to Clever's two year check-up and the doctor had her stand on a small step and "jump" to the floor. How utterly disappointing that she could not do it. She knew her alphabet and how to count to twenty. I had no idea I had to teach her how to jump!
Go Peanut go!
Nice job MA I love the art work
I will have mine up later today
Awww love the logo! Some things are definitely taken for granted. For Meggers some of the movements that come so easily to other children we're extremely tough and brought on many tears.
Meggers is getting ready to turn six and finally she's figured out how to hop and (sort of) skip. She's always had some gross motor delays, but is contantly making gains.
Oooo the other thing she's super proud she's able to do is put her socks on by herself. She was smiling from ear to ear when she showed me she could finally do it.
Way to go Peanut!!!! So cool!
Can I use the pic
Hi Kate,
Isn't it fun watching them figure this out. You can just see the little wheels churning in their head!
Hi Mary,
Thank you!
Hi Kim,
I couldn't agree more!
Hi AZ,
Yes, you are welcome to use the pic.
Hi Kirsti,
Putting socks on is such a huge accomplishment! It's not as easy as it looks. Congrats to Meggers!
Hi Debbie,
I love your "ability Tuesday" idea. I can see Peanut trying to jump. It sounds so cute. Then she claps. Sweet! If you can, that would be great to see on video.
Sorry, I'm a day late! I love the Logo!
Rylie's ability - She now knows her shapes!
WTG Peanut on jumping!
Hi Barbara,
That's a good idea. I'll have to work on that!
Simply lovely! She is obviously thriving! Keep up the good work! - Nards
